Gamification

GiftSpark's gamification layer makes recognition habitual by rewarding participation with points, badges, streaks, leaderboards, challenges, and goals. Instead of relying on willpower, it gives people small, visible reasons to keep recognizing teammates and engaging with the platform.

Points

Points are the shared currency of GiftSpark. Members earn them by giving and receiving recognition and by participating in activities, and they spend them in the rewards catalog. Your current balance is always visible on your profile.

Badges

Badges are awarded for milestones and behaviors — for example, sustained recognition, hitting a streak, or completing a challenge. They give people a sense of progress beyond a raw point total and a way to show what they've contributed.

Streaks

A streak tracks consecutive periods of participation. Keeping a streak alive is a gentle nudge to come back and recognize someone today rather than letting weeks pass between thank-yous.

Leaderboards

Leaderboards rank members and teams by points and activity over a period. They create friendly competition and surface the people keeping recognition alive. Leaderboards can be viewed across the organization or scoped to a team.

Challenges and goals

  • Challenges are time-boxed activities that invite people to participate toward a shared target — a good way to kick-start engagement.
  • Goals let individuals or teams set a target and track progress toward it.

Use cases

  • Reviving a quiet feed — launch a one-week recognition challenge to get everyone posting again.
  • Recognizing consistency — a streak badge rewards the person who shows up to appreciate teammates every week.
  • Team rivalry — two departments race on the leaderboard during a busy quarter.
  • Personal targets — a team lead sets a goal to recognize every team member at least once a month.

How gamification connects to rewards

Gamification is not the end in itself — it feeds the loop. Points earned through these mechanics are redeemed in Regalos, and participation patterns become signals in the surveys and insights area. The aim is durable engagement, not vanity metrics.
